Dash kits are a mod to your dash board, door panels, and consoles. They are most commonly made from materials such as wood, carbon fiber, and aluminum. To help protect against scratches, scuffs, fading, turning yellow and spills, expensive kits are often coated with a thin and clear layer of polyurethane. Less expensive and lesser quality kits are coated with an epoxy. With a little bit of practice, installing the kit yourself is easy. If you’re not experienced it should take you no more than two hours.

When installing trim, some kits are permanent, and some can be taken off. If you need to remove a permanent installation, you’ll have to put on another kit after removing it. When installing a dash kit, you can choose between molded, and flat. Molded kits will fit the exact shape of your dash, but are more expensive. Usually seen on trucks and SUVs, molded kits have large rounded edges. Flat dash kits are flat, and when heated are flexible. The advantage of them is they’re cheap, thus normally seen on low priced automobiles. They have a wide color selection compared to their molded counter part, and have a lot more pieces per kit.
