Infiniti G35 Review
After years of struggling to gain a solid foothold in the market, the Japanese luxury brand Infiniti finally found its savior in the Infiniti G35, an entry-level luxury car available in 2-door coupe or 4 door sedan models. Specifically, it was the sport sedan model that finally helped Infiniti earn its place in the market, where the model’s perfect balance of a roomy interior, great performance and respectable price garnered praise and approval back in its 2003 release.
Built on the same base platform as the Nissan 350Z, it also shares the same 3.5 liter V6 engine which the G35 sedan model utilizes to gain 306 horsepower. The coupe, on the other hand, gets 275-horse power due to its five-speed automatic transmission. Equipping the coupe with the optional six speed manual transmission boosts its horsepower to 293 hp.
Choosing just the right model or make of a G35 may be a bit daunting for buyers since the entry level sedan comes in five different trims. The most popular among them is the Journey trim, which comes with top of the line features like a dual zone climate control and a stereo with a six CD changer, for only a very small price difference from the base model. The more expensive trims like Sport and Sport 6MT do not add more extra features and are geared towards hardcore enthusiasts who just want more performance and visual appeal related features.
The interiors of both coupe and sedan models are not only comfortable but also pleasing to the eye. The maker used high quality materials and gives buyers a choice between using a real aluminum trim or the classic-looking Rosewood one. We find that using a Rosewood trim seems a little awkward juxtaposed against our model’s mostly gray upholstery.
The Infiniti G35 will not disappoint when it comes to the most important aspect of automobiles: Performance. Acceleration is fast, with the capability to go from zero to sixty in less than 6 seconds. This is perfectly complemented by a handling that is both crisp and consistent. The Sport models may handle a little bit stiff for casual drivers, but that is intentional as the models are marketed towards more aggressive drivers.
The Infiniti G35 has not changed much since its debut in 2003, and it’s perfectly understandable due to its exceptional features, great performance coupled with a reasonable price. The base model has an estimated market price ranging from 30 to 33,000USD, and while it’s not the cheapest you will find, you are bound to get exactly what you pay for.
While the G35 has already been succeeded by the G37 back in 2007, the production of the Infiniti G35 model has not yet stopped and aside from the more powerful and more efficient VQ35HR engine used in the 2007 models, the basic design and principle hasn’t been significantly altered or replaced throughout the years. You can’t blame Infiniti: the G35 is a great car and buyers have never been disappointed with its winning formula.
