Mitsubishi Eclipse Review
The gorgeous 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS model certainly had everything that I was looking for in a 4cylinder sports coupe. Even though the Eclipse GS is languishing in the midrange price point at its estimated market price of 19,999USD, the sleek look, exceptional performance, and excellent features of this 2-door beauty more than justifies the amount of money you have to part with.
Equipped with a 162-horsepower, 2.4 liter MIVEC four cylinder engine with 162 libras per feet of torque, the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS provides exceptional acceleration which perfectly complements the sharp, precise handling brought forth by its performance-tuned suspension.
On manual transmission, the Eclipse GS has an estimated gas mileage of 20mpg for the city and 28mpg on highways, making it a very efficient machine that is sorely needed in today’s fuel-scarce society.
Transmission-wise, one can go for a six speed manual transmission or opt for the 5-speed Sportronic automatic transmission to get clutchless manual shifting when you want, and smooth automatic shifting when you don’t.
All of this power does not sacrifice safety, however. As the Eclipse also comes standard with advanced front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and side curtain airbags which are all strategically positioned based on NHTSA crash testing and simulation. The Mitsubishi Eclipse GS proves that you do not have to compromise power for occupant safety when you can have both.
Any car enthusiast knows that while it plays a major part, a car is not judged solely on its performance and speed. It doesn’t matter how fast or powerful it is, you’re not going to spend much time driving the vehicle if you don’t enjoy the experience upon entering the door and planting yourself on the driver and passenger seat. It’s in this vein that the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS further proves itself a worthy purchase.
With a 650watt Rockford Fosgate audio system that includes a 6-cd/mp3 changer, nine speakers, and a 10-inch rear subwoofer, the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS makes sure that your stay inside the car is energetic and never boring. As a bonus, a six-month prepaid subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio is provided so you’ll have exceptional sounds blasting through your exceptional sound system. Traffic won’t be so irritating if you have the company of music to drive those traffic blues away. If music is not your cup of tea, perhaps a traffic jam with Howard Stern’s controversial antics is the order of the day.
Along with the astounding sound system, the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS is also outfitted with a stylish interior with heated, 6-way adjustable leather topped seats. The interior’s design and look makes sure that both driver and passenger are comfortable and not at all affected by the sports coupe’s otherwise brawny and aggressive engine power.
All in all, the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS is a bargain at more than its estimated market price. With the perfect balance of style, comfort, power and Mitsubishi’s 10-year Powertrain Limited Warranty, it is guaranteed that your driving will be fast, smooth, comfortable, and worry-free for a long time.
