Toyota Celica Review
The Toyota Celica was released back in 1970, and was supposed to be a more affordable sports model. It was displayed to the world for the first time to the Tokyo Motor Show and since then has gained more and more popularity among sports car enthusiasts. The first model released boasted a four cylinder 1600cc engine. All Celicas to this date are hard top coupes.
The latest Toyota Celica generation (7th) was released back in 1999. It’s a two door coupe sports car with an aggressive shape that keeps it looking fresh. The main competitors on the Japanese market are the Mazda RX8 and the Nissan 350Z. Unfortunately there was no Celica Cabrio version offered so far, but we all hope that Toyota will be revising that in the future, since they are missing a lot of sports cars fans.
As time progresses, Toyota has slowly been introducing more powerful engines. The new Celica has a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine that is able to provide you with up to 180 BHP. The engine utilizes the well known VVT-i (variable-valve-timing) technology that allows you to have extremely enhanced performance while at the same time being more economical. You will have to choose from a 4 speed automatic transmission or a 6 speed manual transmission for the GT-S model. For the standard GT model only a 5 speed gear box is available.
The standard equipment will include air conditioning, tilt steering, CD/Radio, power mirrors and many other features. The car’s acceleration and handling is going to be great, superior to all other years. There aren’t many cons to this car. The seat room is quite small, but it is usable. While running, the engine noise is fairly noticeable. To some this might be a negative. A new version of Toyota Celica was announced to be released in 2009. This new version will probably have another facelift and some performance improvements. One of the main feature that Toyota wants bring in is reliability. If you are looking for a sports car that you can rely on you should definitely choose for a Toyota Celica.
